Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 20, 2026 · Last updated: March 29, 2026
Overview
DebateTalk (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the DebateTalk platform at debatetalk.ai. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. We keep this policy concise and plain.
What we collect
Account data
When you sign up, we collect your email address and, if you use OAuth (Google or GitHub), your name and profile picture. We do not store your OAuth provider password.
Debate content
We store the questions you submit and the AI-generated responses for each debate you run. This includes the full transcript of model responses, consensus scores, and synthesis output. Enterprise customers may enable Ephemeral Mode, in which debate content is never written to disk and is discarded immediately after streaming completes.
Usage data
We record the number of debates you run, token counts per model call, and timestamps. This is used to enforce tier limits and to improve model routing.
Billing data
Payments are processed by Paddle (Merchant of Record). We receive a transaction status and customer ID but do not store payment card numbers or full billing addresses ourselves.
Technical data
We collect standard server logs (IP address, user-agent, request path, response time). Logs are retained for 30 days and used for security and debugging.
How we use your data
- To operate the debate engine and return results to you.
- To enforce plan limits and track usage against your subscription tier.
- To improve AI model routing by learning which models perform best per question type. Domain scores are updated using an exponential moving average; raw questions are never used to train AI models.
- To send transactional emails (account confirmation, billing receipts, password reset). We do not send marketing email without explicit opt-in.
- To detect abuse and enforce our Terms of Service.
Third-party sub-processors
Running the debate engine requires sending your question to AI model providers. The following third parties process data on our behalf:
| Processor | Purpose | Data sent |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication and database | Account data, debate history |
| Upstash | Distributed cache and rate limiting (Redis) | Session tokens, usage counters |
| Anthropic | Claude model inference | Debate question text |
| OpenAI | GPT model inference | Debate question text |
| Gemini model inference | Debate question text | |
| Mistral AI | Mistral model inference | Debate question text |
| DeepSeek | DeepSeek model inference (via OpenRouter) | Debate question text |
| Groq | Fast inference for lightweight models | Debate question text |
| OpenRouter | Inference routing for additional models | Debate question text |
| Paddle | Payment processing (Merchant of Record) | Email, billing details |
| Resend | Transactional email delivery | Email address, email content |
| Vercel | Frontend hosting and analytics | Anonymized page-view data |
| Google Cloud | Backend hosting (Cloud Run) | API request data |
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and, where applicable, a data processing agreement with us. None of these providers use your debate content to train their models under our agreements (zero data retention option enabled where available).
We also use Discord webhooks for internal operational notifications (such as model health alerts and system events). These are internal tools only — no user personal data or debate content is included in these notifications.
Data retention
Debate history is retained for the lifetime of your account. You can delete individual debates or your entire account from your account settings at any time. On account deletion, all personal data and debate content is permanently removed within 30 days. Server logs are deleted after 30 days. Billing records are retained for 7 years as required by law.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate personal data.
- Erasure — delete your account and all associated data.
- Portability — export your debate history as JSON.
- Restriction — ask us to limit processing while a dispute is resolved.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
To exercise any of these rights, email legal@debatetalk.ai. We will respond within 30 days.
Children
DebateTalk is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at legal@debatetalk.ai and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice in the product at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
